"I have known cowboys to ride one hundred miles per day. I know this sounds unreasonable but they were off before daylight and rode hard until after dark. Their usual day’s work was to be off as soon as they could see how to catch their horses, throw the round-up together around 10 o’clock then work cattle or brand until dark and often times stand guard one-third of the night after that.
The usual ride was sixteen hours per day. No Union hours for them. It was from daylight until dark with work, and hard work as that. "

Blonde Haired Girl
Featured / Female / Caucasian / 13 - 29 years
Description: The character MUST HAVE BLONDE HAIR. Your character rejects LEM TODHUNTER the village idiot when he asks you to dance.
Your character lives in Reconstruction Texas where the Civil War killed most of her brothers or Uncles. She held strong racist views against newly emancipated slaves and the Yankee government in control of the state. The state economy is depressed because of the social and economic upheaval of the war. Your character is concerned about finding a marriage with the strongest man who can protect and provide for her. She in turn must love him and bear him lots of children - some of whom may survive. Everyone considered her an old maid if she didn't marry by 22. A dance could procure a love match if her parents did not have one in mind for her.
Dances would go on for days. Women were rare on the frontier so unmarried women never had a break during dance. The fact that there was not too many women on the frontier gave her some leverage in her marriage choice. But that leverage was quickly lost in the face of Indian raids and race riots.
Wardrobe: Set in Reconstruction, Texas - 1867. Those with their own wardrobe will have preferred consideration. Your wardrobe is homespun mostly. The bra was not invented until 1907. Those women with money had a corset. You wore cotton, linen or wool.
